King's Hawaiian dinner rolls are my daughter's favorite rolls. I wanted to give this copycat recipe a try, and I'm glad I did. These rolls bake up fluffy and light and there's a secret ingredient... pineapple juice!
After the rolls are baked, you'd never know there was pineapple juice in the ingredient list. The juice gives the rolls just a bit of sweetness... just like the real King's Hawaiian rolls. I shaped these rolls with 4-ounce portions of dough.
As it turned out, the rolls were huge after they were baked, which isn't a bad thing, but next time I would measure out 2-ounce portions of dough for the rolls.
The King's Hawaiian website has lots of recipes you can make using these rolls. All of you Pinterest users have probably all seen the mini-ham and cheese sliders made with these rolls that look SO good!
These rolls would make a perfect dinner roll for Easter, Thanksgiving, or just for any dinner where you'd serve bread.
Those look fantastic, Karen! I've never heard of using pineapple juice in rolls, but it sounds like a good idea to try. I love the smell of bread baking. That's one of my favorite aromas. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love King's Hawaiian rolls but homemade is always so much better, these look delicious! Ham & cheese sliders? OK, who's got lunch...
ReplyDeleteI love KH's sweet rolls too. Can't wait to try this. I haven't see those Ham and Cheese Sliders yet...until your post. So, thanks for sharing...and I'm all drooling over your buns and those sliders! :P Have a wonderful rest of the week.
ReplyDeleteThat looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteAnd living in Hawaii, I'll vouch for the fact that lots of people eat "Hawaiian" rolls and it's not just a gimmick.
With a piece of cheese... I would be good to go. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful, K. I could eat that entire pan in one sitting. Hell, in about five minutes. Bread + pineapple = two of my favorite things.
ReplyDeleteWish I could grab one of them right now! And a slab of butter... Thanks for the recipe and I'm sure you made your daughter a happy girl!
ReplyDeleteYou forgot to mention that they are waaay prettier than the original. GREG
ReplyDeleteMy kids love these rolls and I think they make the most delicious sandwiches. Thanks for sharing this, Karen.
ReplyDeleteI love Kings! Great job on these, they look wonderful. I've had those little ham and cheese sandwiches and they are absolutely delicious.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite rolls. I took a copycat recipe and converted it for a bread machine once, it was pretty darn good. They also make great buns for pulled pork!
ReplyDeletesomehow I missed this post Karen. These rolls look to die for! I have a recipe for the bread bookmarked, somewhere, so I just need to try yours. Perfect for Easter.
