Roasted Leg of Goat


Several months ago, our local meat market advertised a new product... leg of goat. I bought one and put it in the freezer. Some months later I was in the store and asked if they were still offering goat meat and the woman said they weren't because they'd only sold one leg. Well, I'm glad I got it when I did!

This was our Easter dinner... and that tells you how far behind I am on blog posts! The meat was moist and tender with the flavors of rosemary, thyme, oregano, lemons, and smoked paprika.


The leftovers made excellent taco meat, and we also had burritos, enchiladas, and quesadillas with the leftover meat.

I like the juxtaposition of the leg of goat, which some may consider a lowly cut of meat, on my Limoges platter... and old, old piece given to me by my grandmother.

  3. Leg of goat. Hmmmm. Was it gamey? Strong? I'm very curious. Sadly, I can't handle the taste of goat cheese. It's much too strong for me. I will say, though, that the presentation of this is beautiful. Gotta love those heirloom dishes.

  4. I don't think I've ever known anyone who roasted a leg of goat. And LOL about you being the only one who bought it. I've had goat once and it was really really good. I've neer seen it offered for sale, or I'd probably be the one taker at our market.

  6. Wow, I'm impressed. I've never made goat, although I enjoyed some "cabrito" (baby goat) in central Mexico - a local favorite. It had a strong flavor, I can't say I was immediately enamored with it. Or maybe that was the interesting restaurant I was in an all the taxidermied goats lining the walls...

  9. Between my childhood summer on the island of St. Martin and my life in Los Angeles I can say I have eaten a lot of goat. But this is the first full leg I have ever seen! Excellent. GREG
