15 Bean Soup with Smoked Turkey Drumsticks

1# dried beans (15-bean soup mix)
2 smoked turkey drumsticks
2 cups chicken broth
1/4 cup tomato paste
4 cloves garlic, peeled
1/2 onion, coarsley chopped

Put all ingredients into crockpot on low for 8 hours. Remove drumsticks and let the meat fall from the bones. Add meat back into soup. Serve with cornbread.
These cornbread sticks turn out so crispy in this old cast iron pan. I lightly greased the pan and put it (empty) into a 400 degree oven until hot. Then I filled the molds and put it back in the oven for 20 minutes. Mmm, good!

  2. Bob, yeah this cast iron pan is so cool... and the cornbread gets really crispy when you heat the pan first. I picked this up at an antique store someplace... don't remember where. I've had it for years.

  4. Hi Karen, great recipes. I've never used a cast iron pan for my corn bread but would love to try it. These you made in the molds look very tasty.

Cornbread tastes so much better when baked in cast iron. :)

  9. I have two of those pans. In my area you can find them at a lot of the thrift stores. I never knew to grease and heat them first, but now that you mention it, I can see my mother doing that in my memories! Thanks for beinging that back to the fore-front!

I've also given you the Lemonade award!

  10. Your soup sounds awesome...I have one of these muffin pans that I got at a garage sale last summer, it was dirty so my daughter tried to be helpful and she washed it and let it sit to dry. Now it is fully rusty, what can I do to save it?
